Obituary

Samuel Owen Matheny, age 83 of Cookeville, Tennessee passed from this life Sunday, July 26, 2020, at Signature Health Care of Putnam County.

He was born Sunday, August 23, 1936 in Monterey, Tennessee. He was the son of the late Winfred Matheny and the late Littie (Adkins) Matheny Dunbar.

Sam was a craftsman, and enjoyed woodworking, stained glass designing, and before his illness he was an avid landscaper and took a lot of pride in his yard.

Sam is survived by former wife of 42 years: Vickie Matheny of Cookeville, TN

1 daughter and son-in-law:
Patricia and Greg Lee of Cookeville, TN

1 son:
Greg Matheny of Virginia Beach, VA and family friend Joanne Hetland

3 grandchildren:
Anna Pihlcrantz
Eve Newell and spouse Kristin
Maddie Lee

2 great grandchildren:
Cloe Freeman
Ellie Barnuevo

1 Sister:
Lessie Hayes

And numerous nieces and nephews

In addition to his parents Sam was preceded in death by; 1 daughter: Marsa Matheny, and several brothers and sisters.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the summer camp scholarship fund at Lighthouse Christian Camp in Smithville, TN.

Graveside services for Sam will be held Wednesday, July 29, 2020 beginning at 2:00 pm at Crest Lawn Memorial Cemetery Mausoleums with Bro. Mark Gaw officiating. Entombment will follow in Crest Lawn Memorial Cemetery mausoleums.

The family will receive friends at Crest Lawn Funeral Home, Wednesday, July 29, from 12:00 noon until time of service at 2:00 pm.
