Obituary

Marguerite Moss, age 99 of Cookeville, Tennessee passed from this life Tuesday, March 17, 2020, at her home in Cookeville.

She was born Tuesday, August 17, 1920 in Chattanooga, Tennessee. She was the daughter of the late Isaac Frank Hargiss, Sr. and the late Fern Hite Hargiss.

In 1938, Marguerite graduated High School as the Sequatchie County Class of 1938 valedictorian. She married the late James Bernard Moss on January 17, 1941 and was married 62 years. She had two children, the late Charlotte Ann Moss and David Frederick Moss. She is survived by a son, David Moss and wife, Karen; her six grandchildren; David Nixon and wife, Jody; Marianne Vanhooser and husband Bobby; Alan Moss and wife Willa; Kathryn Moss Robinson and husband Joseph; Kellie Moss; Jeffrey Moss and wife Stephanie; five great-grandchildren, Isaac Nixon, Jordan Rohr, Kathleen Rohr, Coe Vanhooser, Clay Vanhooser and faithful friends, Bernice Slagle Tlanda and Paul Lomanaco.

Marguerite worked as a charge nurse at Erlanger Hospital in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit when it was first created. Marguerite was a loving and generous wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She was an avid reader and lifelong learner. She enjoyed traveling all over the world and had an insatiable interest in geography and cultural studies.

When she wasn’t selflessly devoting herself to family, friends or pets, she could be found in her garden. She enjoyed cooking and collecting recipes. In fact, she collected everything she came across because she believed it was part of history. She found beauty, joy, humor and mystery in the common things of life and was continuously amazed at God’s handiwork. Marguerite will be dearly missed.

Marguerite will be cremated at Crest Lawn Funeral Home. The family will not hold a memorial service at this time. The family wishes to thank the kind staff at Morningside of Cookeville, Kindred Hospice and Maxine Garrett for their devoted care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Putnam County Library.
