Jessie Copley Barnes, age 90 of Cookeville, Tennessee passed from this life Saturday, April 11, 2020, at Signature Health Care of Putnam County.
She came into this world, Monday, August 12, 1929, in Wilder, Tennessee where her father was a coal miner. She was the firstborn child of the late Vesten and Mildred (Dixon) Henry. She was named in honor of her grandfathers, Zack Dixon, Zack being shortened to the letter Z, and Jesse Henry.
She was a wonderful wife, mother, sister, and grandmother, and was an excellent cook who always grew vegetable gardens to feed her family. She was known for her beautiful roses and flowers. She also cared for her elderly aunts who had helped take care of her and love her while she was growing up.
Our home was always full of neighborhood children which she and our father never grew tired of, enjoying them as much as we did.
Raised in a huge and wonderful family, she had many aunts, uncles, and cousins nearby. Her greatest influences were her grandmothers, Belva Dixon, and Sally Henry and her faith they instilled in her.
She married her childhood sweetheart, our father, Hoyt Copley when she was 16 and he was 17. They worked together to raise us and were blessed with grandchildren they spoiled and loved until his passing in 1976.
Love and contentment came to our mother once again when she married Dwight Barnes in 2000. They enjoyed car and air shows, the Great Smoky Mountains and visiting family and friends as well as their beautiful flowers.
