Obituary

Gilbert "Ewin" Ferrell, 76 of Cookeville, Tennessee passed from this life on Wednesday, September 30, 2020 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center surrounded by his family.

Born Sunday, February 6, 1944 in Cookeville, Tennessee, he was the son of the late Robert Ferrell and the late Pauline Scarlet Hayes. He was the loving husband for 52 years to Brenda Allen Ferrell.

Ewin's family was everything to him. He loved gardening with vegetables and flowers. His African Violets were grown because his grandmother loved them. He enjoyed the outdoors, his Harley, and loved his country.

Being an unselfish individual, he gave many gifts, one of them being the gift of life. He was an organ donor with Tennessee Donor Services.

He was wounded in combat and a recipient of the Purple Heart during Vietnam.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by
1 daughter:
Sherry (Zach) Abston of Cookeville, TN

1 son:
Holly Ferrell of Cookeville, TN

3 grandchildren:
Brooklyn, Braedin, and Baylee Jared.

1 great-grandchild:
Amma Cunningham

1 sister:
Betty (Ray) Ogletree

1 brother:
Glenn Ferrell

In addition to his parents, Ewin was preceded in death by his granddaughter Briana Dillon, sisters Lois Vickers, Marie Sells, Bobby June Ferrell, brothers Robert Ferrell, Roy Ferrell and Jerry Ferrell.

The family will receive friends from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM on Sunday, October 4, 2020, at Cookeville Freewill Baptist Church, 833 S. Willow Avenue, Cookeville, Tennessee.

Funeral services will be at 5:00 PM on Sunday at Cookeville Freewill Baptist Church located at 833 S. Willow Avenue Cookeville, Tennessee 38501.

Met Ewin around 1977-78 through a life long friend of his, Gary Hooks. Gary and I taught and coached football at Algood. Ewin came to many of our games over the years. We often shared memories of our time in the military and in Nam. God bless his family. Rest In Pearce Ewin.
