Carl Eugene “Bubba” Kester was born on September 27, 1957, in Bartlesville, Oklahoma and passed away on March 20, 2019, at his home in Cookeville, Tennessee. He grew up in Bartlesville and attended Sooner High School, Phillips University Graduate, Abilene Christian Academy, Oklahoma Wesleyan University and Oklahoma State University. Aside from living in Bartlesville, he traveled the United States proudly representing his Triggers BBQ and Salsa in memory of his Grandfather Ab Kester. Later in life, he resided in Cookeville, Tennessee.

In his professional career, he was self-employed with his family recipe Triggers BBG Sauce and Salsa. He worked extensively with Triggers BBQ and Salsa and many awards were received for being chosen as the best product. He was very proud that the product was in Cracker Barrel Old Country Store nationwide and several other grocery stores throughout Tennessee over the years. And with sadness, due to declining health, he was unable to continue with the production of the product.

He was an avid sports enthusiast with Oklahoma Sooners being his favorite team. He loved watching any sports including baseball, golf, and football. He loved to share the word of god and was very proud of his Church of Christ heritage. He was so thankful that he had a part in sharing the gospel with many people including his caregivers and some accepting the lord as their personal savior and was baptized. He was very knowledgeable of his medical conditions, the Bible and politics.

He enjoyed Fox News and a faithful supporter of President Trump. He was an outstanding baseball player (pitcher) in high school and through college that was known for his fastballs, sliders, and knuckleballs. He also helped coach the Bartlesville Engines. He would have had the opportunity to play for the Dodgers or the Reds, but due to an accident was unable to do so.

He was very proud of his Indian Heritage of the Cherokee Nation and Certificate of Degree of Indian Blood. He was very knowledgeable of his health issues and kept an ongoing log of his weight and blood sugar levels for the past 13 years. Dr. Sharma (diabetic doctor) even asked him to write a book about his weight loss and insulin injections that started at 900 units a day and for the past two years plus he was taking 24 units a day and blood sugar levels as low as 80 and no higher than 120. He was very faithful to keep on a schedule for all his meals and health checks.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Allen and Thelma (Harrison) Kester, his Grandfather, Ab Kester, Ruby Kester, and Orma Kester. His father and mother in law, Walter and Texie Jeffers Thompson, brother in laws, Lee and Dorsey Thompson and sister in law Ivie Jean Thompson. He lost many extended family members and friends over the years that were very close to his heart.

He is survived by his loving and supportive wife Kathy Thompson Kester of Cookeville Tennessee, one sister, Pamela Tate (Larry) of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, Denzil Thompson (Rhonda) of Helenwood, Tennessee and Willie (Ella) Thompson of Helenwood, Tennessee. He is also survived by his nephews, Danny Tate of Fayetteville, North Carolina, Larry Tate of Bartlesville, Oklahoma and Shawn Tate of Owasso, Oklahoma, Aron Thompson of Oneida, Tennessee and Dustin Thompson of Helenwood, Tennessee. And many grand nephews and nieces that were very close to his heart. Special friends; Paul Likins, Gary Baldwin, Gerald Herren, Jeffery Chaffin, David Hammonds, Mike Webb, Eric Collins, Dr. Stacy Brewington, and the late Jimmy Dale Phillips.

His Fur Babies: Peaches, Taz, Jessie, Barney and Trumpce

He was a born again Christian and was a member of the Double Springs Church of Christ in Cookeville, Tennessee.

He met his soul mate, Kathy Thompson in Cookeville Tennessee in August of 2006. He asked her hand in marriage and was married on March 27, 2009, in Cookeville, Tennessee. He loved and cherished his wife and was a great supporter of her work with the Department of Children Services, her talent in photography, estate sales/garage sales, her family ties, her religion and her desire to travel. He told Ms. Kathy (to him) to always tell the truth because it is the right thing to do, attend church, be saving and don’t spend money that is not necessary. And to always remember that obstacles in the path are not obstacles, they ARE the path.

Many thanks for all the health care that he received over the years. A special thanks for Senior Solutions Home Care, Cookeville Regional Hospital, St. Thomas Hospital, UT Hospital, Dr. Stacy Brewington and the other doctors for all their excellent care. Thanks to all the home health nurses that gave so much tender care to him over the years. A special thank you to his brother in law, Denzil Thompson who visited him often and was such a great support for him and most of all made him laugh.

He was given the gift of life, and now he has to give it back. He was diagnosed with Congestive Heart Failure, Kidney Failure, Diabetes many years ago and most recently the GI Bleed that resulted in taking his life.

He worked very hard over the years to get healthy and finally after all the hospital stays, doctor appointments, surgeries, and therapy he made the decision to go and be with the Lord. He was ready to go to heaven which he spoke to his wife during his most recent illness.

The celebration of Life for Carl Eugene "Bubba" Kester will be at the Double Springs Church of Christ in Cookeville on Saturday, March 23, 2019 at 2:00 pm with Bros. Eric Collins and Mike Webb officiating with a meal to follow the service.

Visitation with the family will be held Saturday, March 23, 2019, from 10:00 am until time of service at Double Springs Church of Christ. Bubba chose cremation and his family followed his wishes, and after the service, he will be cremated and his ashes will be kept by his beloved wife Kathy Kester.

Honorary Pallbearers will be the Double Springs Elders and Deacons.

He was a childhood friend, known then as Bubby. He and his family lived just around the corner from our house. Together we shared many early life experiences that will never be forgotten. We enjoyed tackle football in the Poole's front yard, shooting fireworks in the street, playing army in the back yard, watching Wild Kingdom on your parents color TV, and of course baseball. It was all good. Much later in life’s journey, I’m still proud to call him my friend. Rest In Peace Bubby, you deserve a better place. Friends forever.

My sweetie has gone to heaven to be with the Lord. I will miss him so much and I want to thank him for being a part of my life. Our life was cut short and of the memories we still had to share. Our life was not easy and a lot of time spent in hospitals, appointments and therapy. A man of many talents and one included being faithful to his loving wife and how he believed in her. My love will be with you always. Barney, Trumpce and Ms Kathy.
