Mrs Pitts, as I knew her as a child and neighbor, was so kind to our family. We are very poor, and a phone was a luxury when food was hard to come by at times. Her phone was always available, but we only took advantaged of the phone a few times. One night we had to use it to call for an ambulance for my mother who was in labor and hemorrhaging. She not only let us use the phone, but also drove my very distraught dad to the hospital. My Mom recovered and my parents held her in even higher esteem. As an adult , I admired her so much. She was such a strong woman. I enjoyed seeing her in the grocery store and conversing with her, She is one of those people who leave a hole when they are no longer here.
